As they play a game, a student must apply mathematical concepts at their level. This is how a student progresses through each game. So, by playing the games they are using and testing the concepts they need to learn.
The games combined with the follow-on worksheets give you a good idea of your child’s current level of ability and areas that may need more work. Ask your child to write all calculations down on the worksheet as they fill it in. Once you go through the worksheet with them, have them explain how they arrived at each answer. This will give you a good indication of how well they do or do not grasp the concept.
Student who can only do up to 25% of the activity and worksheet:
– need a lot of work on this topic.
Up to 50% of the activity and worksheet:
– they have a below average level of ability and need attention on this topic.
Up to 75% of the activity and worksheet:
– are at a reasonable level and need to persist with the topic.
Close to or 100% of the activity and worksheet:
– are competent and have a good understanding of this topic.
It is also recommended that students play the games of the year level below them. This is particularly necessary if they have any difficulty with any game. It may reinforce or introduce concepts they need to know.
